Lukewarm Church: Are you truly saved or are you lukewarm? (Revelation 3:14-22, Revelation 16:21)

David Livie, 16 September 2018

Part of the Book Of Revelation series, preached at a Sunday Morning service

Major themes from the book of Revelation

One of the most dangerous lies is whether you are truly saved or are you lukewarm neither hot nor cold. You have to know that you are truly saved.

1. The lukewarm Laodicea Church

God is always truthful and faithful
God knows their deeds:
Cold - doesn't believe in Jesus
Hot - believes in Jesus and lives a Godly life
Neither Cold or Hot (in middle) - thinks they believe but really do not. They're lying to themselves.
They thought they are rich and self sufficient, but is spiritual poor and blind.
Naked - not clothed in righteousness.
The judgement they will receive - they will be spat out
They watered down their Christianity to a point where it was thought to be the norm.
God's good works are work of Gold.
Black cloth is nothing compared to the white clothing of righteousness from God.
Jesus is asking this Church to change because of their spiritual status - being lukewarm.

2. The lukewarm Church now
There are lot of Churches now where they have watered down Gospel and at the heart of it are lukewarm.
Faith always exhibits deeds.
A believer will always believe.
People can exhibit believe but really do not believe.
Have I truly believed in Jesus, and do you exhibit deeds that show a true faith.

3. What are our response should be now?

Ask the question are you truly saved
Be earnest and repent before God.
Acknowledge God and call God to be center of their Church.
Believe and confess in Jesus Christ.
We need to be concerned about others.

Revelation 3:14-22

14And unto the angel of the church of the Laodiceans write; These things saith the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of the creation of God; 15I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot. 16So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth. 17Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked: 18I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame of thy nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve, that thou mayest see. 19As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent. 20Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me. 21To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father in his throne. 22He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches. (KJV)

Revelation 16:21

21And there fell upon men a great hail out of heaven, every stone about the weight of a talent: and men blasphemed God because of the plague of the hail; for the plague thereof was exceeding great. (KJV)
